Wilson Butte Cave provided much needed shelter from the harsh winter climate on the Snake River Plain. Plus the remains recovered during the excavations indicate that herds of buffalo roamed nearby. Other natural resources, such as wood for cooking and warmth, was probably available on the higher buttes in the region.
