Evidence excavated at Redfish Overhang indicates that both hunting and food preparation were conducted there. Interestingly within the sheltered area are two hearths surrounded by concentrations of artifacts. One area is clearly a hunting weapon manufacturing and repair locations and the other is were food was processed and prepared. The author of the report speculates that these represent male and female work areas and supports this with ethnographic evidence that this was common among the Northern Shoshone. Game animals in the region include elk, deer, mountain sheep, and antelope.
