The reason people were attracted to the Wahmuza area was undoubtedly the concentration of natural resources in the immediate area. The fresh-water springs in the Fort Hall Bottoms provide water year around which attracts game animals as well as humans. The trees in and around the Bottoms provide construction materials and fuel for heat and cooking. The precise location that was excavated is also protected by a large sand dune from the winter winds that buffet the Snake River Plain. All of these factors and more probably explain why this area was important to prehistoric residence.
