This is a difficult question to answer with any confidence. There is a tremendous amount of effort exhibited in this large collection of finished and unfinished stone tools. Plus the stone materials used to make the items in the collection are of the highest quality. What would compel the individuals to invest that much energy and skill simply to leave them behind? In other words, these 60 items were very “expensive” in modern terms therefore it seems that their reasons must have been very important to them. Did the makers die and their handiwork cached as an offering to the afterlife? Did the people simply have too much to carry so they stored the items in a place where they could be retrieved when needed, and this never happened? We will never know “why” but it stimulates interesting speculation.
