Given the style of artifacts that were recovered from this site, especially in the uppermost levels, namely pottery, the people who used Wilson Butte Cave were the ancestors to the historic Shoshone and Bannock. However, given the age of the earliest occupations, it is impossible to know exactly how those people relate to historic groups.
