The two rockshelters are immediately adjacent to the road that parallels the Salmon River near Shoup, Idaho. They are within 50 feet of the river bank at an elevation of approximately 3000 feet above sea level. They were carved into the canyon wall during the massive ice melt at the end of the Ice Age. The vegetation in the canyon consists of Ponderosa pine forest along with numerous grasses and shrubs.
