Image of Baker Caves 1

Baker Cave I and III were excavated in August of 1985 by students and staff from Boise State University under the direction of Professor Mark Plew. The project was conducted because the sites were considered under threat of vandalism, and from the density of artifacts and bison bone scattered in the caves they clearly contained significant evidence of prehistoric hunting. A report documenting the excavation and subsequent analyses was published in 1987 by Mark Plew, Max Pavesic and Mary Anne Davis entitled Archaeological Investigations at Baker Caves I and III: A Late Archaic Component on the Eastern Snake River Plain, Archaeological Reports No. 15, Boise State University (photo used by permission of the Idaho National Laboratory and the Idaho Museum of Natural History).
