Baker Cave I and III were excavated in August of 1985 by students and staff from Boise State University under the direction of Professor Mark Plew. The project was conducted because the sites were considered under threat of vandalism, and from the density of artifacts and bison bone scattered in the caves they clearly contained significant evidence of prehistoric hunting.
