Bobcat Cave was explored and excavated during the summers of 1987 and 1989 as an archaeological field school exercise by Idaho State University under the direction of Professor Richard N. Holmer. The report documenting the results of the excavations and laboratory analyses was published in 1996 by the Archaeological Survey of Idaho entitled Prehistoric Cold Storage on the Snake River Plain: Archaeological Investigations at Bobcat Cave in Monographs in Idaho Archaeology and Ethnology Number 1 by Lael Suzann Henrikson.
