The Sheepeater campsite is located in the northern part of Stanley Basin in Central Idaho. It is on the banks of Cape Horn Creek so water is continuously available to support camping activities. Also nearby are meadows that support large quantities of edible root plants such as camas. The site is along the upper tributaries to the Salmon River which where salmon runs occur in the summer. Therefore fish along with big game hunting and fishing probably supported the people who used the site. In the area surrounding the campsite are stands of lodgepole pine with some alpine fir so fuel and construction materials were also available.
