Image of Needle

The context in which the skeleton was found suggests a few things about her burial. The first is that the woman was buried underground in a grave by a person or people who apparently cared for her and cared about her afterlife. This is suggested by the presence of a few useful artifacts that were purposely buried with her. These include an obsidian spear point or knife and a bone sewing needle. These artifacts show no signs of wear or use so they perhaps were made specifically to accompany her into the afterlife, however they conceived of it. Also present was a small bone fragment that had been smoothed, polished and etched with 18 small lines. Since her bone development indicates that she was 17 to 21 years of age when she died we might speculate that this bone was used to record the years of her life.
