The caves at Wasden were visited periodically by the native residence of the Snake River Plain since approximately 12,500 years ago. We do not know the details of how these earliest occupants relate to the historic Shoshone and Bannock residence of the region other than the earliest residence were probably the ancestors of many Native American groups and tribes. The later users of the caves made artifacts that are clearly related to the Shoshone and Bannock and therefore it is logical to conclude that their ancestors used the site and a hunting base camp.
