Image of Wahmuza Area

Wahmuza was excavated during the summers of 1985 and 1986 by students enrolled in the Idaho State University Archaeological Field School under the direction of Richard N. Holmer. The site was selected for excavation because the area was known to have been used for winter villages and no winter village had ever been excavated in the Northern Shoshone-Bannock Homeland. A report summarizing the excavations and analyses was released in 1986 as Shoshone-Bannock Culture History edited by Richard N. Holmer, Swanson/Crabtree Anthropological Research Laboratory Reports of Investigations 85-16, Idaho State University.
