Richard N. Holmer is Professor of Anthropology at Idaho State University where he has taught since 1983. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Utah in 1976 and has conducted research in many parts of the world including Mesoamerica, Polynesia and the Arctic.

Since arriving at ISU Dr. Holmer has focused most of his research on the archaeology of Eastern Idaho. In pursuing and promoting this interest he has filled many roles at ISU including Director of the Idaho Museum of Natural History and Chairman of the Department of Anthropology. As Director of the Archaeological Field School for over 20 years he devoted his summers to working with students and volunteers in the field. This Field Guide continues his interest in sharing what he has learned with all those who are interested.
